FOP - Ferment On Premise
Brew on premise stores (BOP's) first appeared in Ontario in London in 1986. The BOP's, also known as U-Brews, were facilities where customers rent equipment to make their own beer for personal consumption and not for commercial use.
A couple of years later, U-Brews basically changed to U-Vints (also known as U-Ferments), where customers could make their own wine. U-Vints became popular because of new technologies which permitted the manufacturers of wine kits to package juices to give the customers the same blends of juices that are used by many wineries.
Today, Ferment on Premise stores (FOP's) are very popular for those over the age of 30 and especially so for seniors. One of the many reasons that people use FOP's is because they take pride in making their own wine.
Currently, FOP facilities are located in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia and some US States.
